More fun with the letter Q and the binary number of the beastbot: exQorpse, a PHP-driven dadabase from Shawn Rider. I say “more,” because Shawn has done other things–many brilliant, weird, and irrepressible things–like this before. exQorpse is premised on a sound idea shared by surrealism and new media: conversation is an art. Shawn may go wrong in leading the initial player of the Qorpse into negativity; there’s a lot of spamnet negativity. But, interestingly, the user can come back into the poetic conversation with a new nickname and find him/herself quoted (out of context and databasically; not all the words are ones you wrote): nicknames carry on with a life of their own. Interesting, and very Shawn, this persistence of memory. As some sort of expert system, the concept of the exquisite corpse game has intriguing use as a brainstorm device. This isn’t it, but it approaches proof of concept. After a few zillion more hours research and programming (and yo mamma’s gonna pay for it in taxes, guarantee), this Q of a brainstorming machine may be looked back upon as a forefeather.

Here’s a transcript of part of my first session with exQurpse (”you” = “funkendbub,” at least in this session):

gomer: where you from funkendub?

you: armadillo, in eastern washington–the palouse

stereomatic: how did you hear about this site funkendub?

STEVER: yeah, but you know, those guys ended up getting shot

gomer: sXe86 - nice work - wow, that was cool

stereomatic: be nice!

mycroft: that’s cuz of whaht i was saying….

mycroft: look at it like an inspiration, not a fucking roadmap

you: sorry, nice is good, i heard from shawn

you: about it

you: i mean

sXe86: is it just me or is this room not as good?

stereomatic: i mean, nobody’s perfect, but…

stereomatic: what?

sXe86: worst round yet funkendub

gomer: We were having such good rounds before…

sXe86: i think it was when funkendub came that this room wentin the crapper!

STEVER: so explain to me how you make sure there’s no violence

mycroft: we all know that Roberts and Vickie aren’t going to put up a struggle, but if we do it this way it just makes sure we get the psychlogical drop on them

stereomatic: i never get to enter the question…

sXe86: normally i wouldn’t say anything, but i agree

mycroft: simple - it’s all a psych

gomer: i love those images sXe86

stereomatic: usually i think the n00bs are gettigng better by now funkendub

STEVER: are the guns loaded?

gomer: do you remember when i firsst started sXe86? was i this bad?

mycroft: like some social engineering style…

STEVER: ok..

gomer: I bet funkendub has a mustache…

mycroft: yeah - loaded, real guns…

STEVER: lemme go ask the kid who lives downstairs…

sXe86: geez!

gomer: seriously, i agree

mycroft: it’s easier you know? to get a real gun…

stereomatic: I hope we don’t have to leave this room just because of funkendub…

gomer: you could use teh “change room” button

mycroft: haha

mycroft: seriously, though, it’s nothing to worry about

mycroft: like where do you get a fake gun that looks real?

stereomatic: talk about overstaying your welcome

sXe86: i wish funkendub would just leave already

STEVER: that’s waht you say…

sXe86: noo!! just go home funkendub

mycroft: haha

mycroft: if i were you, i’d worry more abot getting your shit straight

gomer: funkendub is going to force us all to switch rooms…

mycroft: well, i am fucking worried about you

stereomatic: do you think funkendub is even there? slowest typer in the room!
